Good to know: by default images are cleaned losslessly — the tags are deleted but the pixels are never re-encoded, so quality is identical. Videos are cleaned deeper still: the metadata boxes go, and encoder identification written inside the compressed streams (SEI user data, codec configuration, audio fill elements) is neutralised in place, with the video and audio streams left bit-identical. Videos keep their original codec and quality: metadata boxes — XMP, C2PA Content Credentials, iTunes/QuickTime tags, location, encoder strings — are removed, the file is compacted, and in-stream encoder IDs are zeroed. What CleanSlate cannot remove: information visible in the picture itself, invisible pixel-level watermarks such as SynthID, steganography, and anything a platform re-adds on upload.
